How to Choose the Right Size for Your Yorkshire Terrier
How many times have you ordered an item of clothing for your Yorkie only to find it too tight or too loose? It happens often, especially when shopping online. At AKYCO, we know this well: our four Yorkshire Terriers — Aky, Pizzy, Frunzy, and Figo — have different shapes and proportions, and finding the right size is the first thing we check every time we create a new garment.
With this guide, we'll help you measure your dog in a few minutes, so you can confidently order from our Yorkie clothing collection knowing that the item will be perfect.
Step 1 — Measure the Chest
The chest is the most important measurement. Place a tape measure around the widest part of your Yorkie's chest, just behind their front legs. Leave about 1–2 cm of space for comfort.
Tip: If your dog is restless, wait until they are calm. Figo, our puppy born on September 11, 2024, we always distract with a treat!
Step 2 — Measure Back Length
Place the tape measure at the base of the neck and measure to the base of the tail. This measurement ensures the garment covers well without being too short.
Step 3 — Compare with the Size Chart

Tips for Optimal Comfort
- Always choose one size up if you are in doubt.
- If the fur is long and thick, add 0.5 cm to the chest measurement.
- Have your dog move around after putting on the garment — they should be able to walk and run freely.
